Hoover F5837900 Steamvac Supreme Description
Designed for pet owners and active households, this Hoover Steamvac Supreme F5837-900 850-watt hot-water vacuum cleans carpets deeply after they've been dry-vacuumed. With onboard attachments connected to an 8-foot hose, the vacuum also wet-cleans upholstery, stairs, and bare floors and vacuums up liquid spills. The vacuum applies a mixture of hot tap water and cleaning solution (16-ounce bottle included), brushes the mixture into carpet fibers with two sets of bristles, and then vacuums up the dirty water. No faucet hookup is required. Both clean-water and dirty-water tanks detach. The vacuum cleans in both forward and backward directions and has a finger trigger for applying cleaning mixture. Made of plastic, it's lightweight (20 pounds), stands 45 inches high, has a toe-operated on/off switch, and comes with a 20-foot cord. Assembly requires just two screws (which are included). An accompanying booklet explains assembly and operation, and Hoover warrants the vacuum against defects for one year.
OK, but no scrubbing action The box on my unit said "Dual Brush Action", which apparently means that the brush drags on the carpet whether you're pushing it forwards or backwards. I had assumed that "action" meant the brush actually moved (silly me). Please note that I did not buy mine from Amazon, and that dubious "Dual Brush Action" claim is conspicuously absent in the description here.
This model SteamVac works well enough (how wrong can you go with hot detergent water?) but not nearly as well as the fancier Hoovers that have rotating brushes, which I have also used. I don't think the modest price difference comes close to compensating for the loss in cleaning power. I'll be trading mine for a better model with a moving brush.
You get what you pay for. I wish I'd spent more and bought a better model with the power brushes. This model does an adequate job and is simple enough to operate that I use it frequently. I wish that they had made it so that the front cover over the area where the water is sucked up could be cleaned. I hate putting it away with the gunk like carpet fibers and lint in there (ok, so I'm a little obsessive). Hoover Does It Again! I love the fact that Hoover knows how to make house cleaning easier. This was the first product my husband purchased for me and its jewel. I use it not only for carpets and furniture but to clean out my car carpets and seats. What could be simpler that pouring hot water and the solution into it and letting it do all the work. Way to go Hoover! Steam Vac? Very Misleading carpet cleaner name "Steam Vac". Where is the steam? There is no steam, just hot water that gets cold very fast. I used mine around the house and it made the carpets wet...did not do much to the stains. I rented a steam Cleaner and it did a lot better. For the money I will just rent for a large job. For the small stuff a brush and a small bucket of carpet shampoo in hot water will do the same or better. Leaves carpets wet and hard floors drenched! I purchased this today and was very excited to use it. Unfortunately, it's going back to the store asap. As mentioned before, there's no steam. There's also no brush action. The "power" hand tool that came with mine is not attached to any power source.
I was most disappointed, however, when I tried to use the dry floor attachment with my tile floors. It left them as wet as if I spilled a glass of water--there's no extraction power whatsoever there. The carpets are quite damp, but should dry. I did see a difference in the cleanliness of the carpets, but not enough to make this worth the money.
All-in-all, this is a cheap product that uses misleading statements to represent itself as something it's not.
Buyer beware.
