Designed for pet owners and active households, this hot-water vacuum cleans carpets after they've been dry-vacuumed and scrubs bare floors. The 1,440-watt vacuum applies hot tap water and cleaning solution (a 16-ounce bottle is included) into carpet fibers or onto bare floors with five rotating brushes at two speeds, and then it vacuums up the dirty water. No faucet hookup is required. Both the clean-water and dirty-water tanks detach for filling and emptying, and the vacuum shuts off automatically when the dirty-water tank is full.
The vacuum cleans a 12-inch path going forward and backward and automatically adjusts for carpet heights and bare floors. In addition, the accompanying upholstery/stair tool (with an indicator light showing whether it's in floor or tools mode) has a finger trigger for applying cleaning mixture. The vacuum has a toe-operated on/off switch and comes with a 24-foot cord and an 8-foot hose. Assembly requires just two nuts and bolts and one screw (which are included), and the instruction booklet is easy to follow. The vacuum carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack
Look at all that dirt After continually paying a carpet cleaning service, we decided to purchase our own machine. Since this is our first ever I have nothing to compare it directly to. However, I will say this, both my wife and I were amazed (or disgusted) at the amount of dirt this machine removed from the carpet. So far, its been a worthwhile purchase. works great I bought this vacuum about 8 months ago and it works great. With 2 kids and 5 animals in the house it surprised me with the amount of stains it took out of the carpet. My husband is a mechanic and his car seats are soiled in grease. I was shocked that it cleaned the seats so well. Even though all the seat stains were not gone, it looked great. Hoover Machine Fails After One Use I have written this review on many of the Hoover Steam Vacs sites because my Hoover stopped sending water to the brushes after one use. It was fair in its performance the first time, and so I wonder about all these raves??? Not working again was so disappointing that I thought I'd better alert folks to be very careful to use the machine often in the first year while there is still a warranty Better than a rental I absolutely love this cleaner. Having 2 dogs, 3 kids (including twin 3-year-old boys) and lots of entertaining, my off-white carpets get dirty pretty often. This machine is amazing. It has removed not only dirt, but blood, juice, mud, accident stains from the dogs (both, if you know what I mean)...My two gripes about it is that the receiving tank is small. For every fill up of the fill tank, you have to dump the receiving tank twice. If you can afford an extra tank, go for it (or if you know someone who has the same machine, borrow the tank). It makes the job go faster without having to run to dump it every so often. The other complaint--the upholstery cleaner part isn't the best so I use a hand held cleaning machine for that purpose. Plan on getting it servced I purchased this product hoping to keep our near-white carpet maintained. It worked for a while. The problem was that that dirt and hair (that the vacuum cleaner missed) would clog the machine in multiple locations, some of which could be disassembled and cleaned by the consumer. Thankfully, we now have hardwoods. I would recommend researching area dealers to find out if these can be professionally serviced (cleaned out) by someone in your area. I can't even detect where all the gunk lies that causes the carpet cleaner to stop sucking up the water it discharges.
