Bissell 3107B Catch-All Vac customer reviews:
Doesn't hold a charge, poor suction, no good for cat litter & fine dirt I have had two Bissell Catch-all's before this - don't ask me why I bought the 2nd one, just habit I guess. The first place I had it in was a really small apartment in Korea with laminate floors - I would use this first and then sweep, because it never picked up everything. Then I moved into a house with tile & vinyl in a few areas. I bought it again (I left the first one in Korea). I thought that maybe the problems I had with the first one were just a fluke, but I was wrong:
1. They don't hold a charge at all. You get about 10 minutes of vacuuming time out of the battery. And you can't leave the battery off the charger for more than a half hour or its dead. Its completely obnoxious, because every so often I'd forget and leave the battery in the sweeper, and then the next time I'd go to use it, it wouldn't even think about starting.
2. ZERO suction. Couldn't pick up cat litter (thus the broom), couldn't pick up fine dirt. Barely picked up hair.
3. Not very mobile - couldn't get around or under stuff. Forget about edges or corners.
4. The battery pops out sometimes in the middle of vacuuming.
5. You have to keep putting on those swiffer pads - who wants to do that - you are just dragging dirt around - just get a sweeper that picks it up instead.
So I recently got a bunch more of my house tiled and decided it was time to get something that I don't have to follow around with a broom. That is the other reason I know how bad the Bissell is; I got something new that is SO much better. The Dirt Devil 083414 Extreme Power Stick Vacuum.
The Power Stick is AWESOME! It has power, suction, is mobile (for corners & edges) holds a charge, and picks up litter, hair & dirt. It holds a charge for my whole house, but is perfect for quick pick up jobs.
BOTTOM LINE: Don't even think about the Catch-all - completely not worth your time. Spend a little extra and get the Power Stick. I am SO glad I bought the Power Stick. It fit what I needed: good on tile (and vinyl, and laminate), cordless, powerful, and gets hair, dirt & cat litter. AND the price was definitely right! If you are looking for something with these specifications, this is the one. Not bad, got a solid 2 years out of it. I got this as a Christmas gift 2 years ago and it only now just failed. (i sucked up a string from our Jute rug and before I could shut it off I burnt out the motot. drag.) I really liked the suction it offered I have a 1700 sq ft house with hardwoods, tile and linoleum and it worked great. its true that the profile is very low and therefore the bigger debris "nuggets" tend to get pushed around. But, with my border collie and two longhair cats, this worked like a dream. it is light, quiet and about 20 min per charge seems just enough for me. I am very happy that i got a solid 2 yr out of it. What a waste. This doesn't work very well, the battery doesn't stay charged long enough to finish the job. I am throwing it away because the only thing it is really good for is taking up my precious space. Three Years Later, Still Doing a Great Job! I bought this vac in November of 2004 and I still love it. When I originally purchased it, I lived in a 500 square foot townhouse with hard floors throughout and could easily clean the whole floor on one charge. I have a lab who sheds like crazy, so I used it every day. Now that I'm living in a much larger home (where about 1/2 of the floors are wood), I find I can usually only do two rooms or so before needing to recharge the battery. (This may also be due to it not holding a charge as well after three years of daily use.)
I find the battery snaps in place really snuggly (sometimes I have trouble removing it, it's so snug). I've taken it apart a few times to give it a thorough cleaning, and leave the battery in the charger (plugged in) except when I'm using it. The short charge is a bit of a pain, but I actually like that it limits my cleaning time--it makes it more of a game to get it all done quickly. I also really like that it doesn't use bags--that makes quick cleanups really simple and straightforward, and also means that I never have to worry if I'm running low on bags.
All in all, I'm still just as thrilled with this little vac as I was when I first bought it. Sure, it'd be better if it did all the cleaning itself, without me, but otherwise, it's easy to use, really reliable, and still going strong. It does a great job sucking up dog hair, which is the big mess around here :-), and, like I said, I use it every day, so it's never tackling a really huge job--just the horrendous daily shedding of one dog :-). Handy Helper I love this product. It's light and picks up little stuffs like crumbs, my dog's hair, dust, etc. from the hardwood floor and some rugs. I didn't try it on my carpet yet. I use the regular, powerful vaccum for serious cleaning and this one for a quick clean-up. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's pretty loud. However, that's ok as long as it cleans the floor.
