Turkey Fryer 30-Quart Aluminum Cooking Set customer reviews:
It's not a turkey fryer, it's a brewpot! I just want to point out that you can recycle the oil from these fryers with a small filtering device, so it's not wasted.
Second, this is great for those of us who home-brew. It's tough to find an affordable and large pot to boil 5 gallons of liquid safely. Plus, you don't want to do it on the stove, since boil overs are hard to clean up. Works well... The reviewer from AZ is a bit off. Yes the pot size is 30qt but you won't be filling the entire pot with oil.
What you do is put your turkey in and fill with water to cover the turkey. Pull out the turkey and put a mark on the pot to determine how much oil is needed. Obviously it is nowhere near 30qts.
First time user - fryer worked better than expected The turkey fryer was a gift to my Dad for Christmas. We followed all the instructions and watched the accompanying video regarding safety and turkey preparation. After I vetoed my Dad's suggestion we fry the turkey on his wooden deck, we set up shop on the front lawn. The Pennsylvania weather was well below freezing on the day after Christmas, so it took some time for the (vegetable) oil to reach 350 degrees. A 13-pound turkey is supposed to take 45 minutes - my Dad and my brother removed it from the oil after 30. They had used the meat thermometers and thought it was done - it was, except for the drumsticks. If I hadn't been inside the house, I would have pushed for 35 to 40 minutes fry time.
Verdict: this was the juicest and tastiest turkey breast I can ever remember eating!
Highly recommended, and a fun experience for the family, huddled around the propane tank and the 30 quart, bubbling, steaming pot! Been deep frying turkeys 13 years We've been deep frying turkeys for 13 years. My family won't eat turkey prepared in an oven now.
Observe Safe Cooking at all times. LOWER IT SLOWLY into the hot oil!!!This keeps down a lot of the bubbling up and splashing as you first lower it. USE LONG OVEN GLOVES!! I use welders gloves. Pat the turkey dry with towel or paper towels before putting it into the hot oil. make sure there is no water inside the turkey, Do not cook inside the garage or house. The yard is much safer.
We use rule of thumb, 3 minutes per lb. @ 350deg. I've never had a burnt or raw turkey! Enjoy the meal!! A whole in the bottom after 1 use We used it once and the metal was so thin that it burned right through the bottom. Just a small needle sized hole, but never-the-less, it leaked all over our brand new patio. Had to buy a pressure washer to remove the damage. Pass on this one.
