Charbroil 463461206 Performance Series 45,000-BTU Grill, Black customer reviews:
IT REALLY DOES a great job we have had this grill for a bout 2 weeks it really cooks well with almost no flare up, this a real winner. THIS IS OUR 1ST CHARBOIL GRILL, THE OTHER ONE WE HAD, YOU REALLY HAD TO BABY SET IT SO YOU WOULDN'T BURN UP YOUR FOOD BECAUSE OF FLARE/UPS IF I EVER HAVE TOO REPLACE THIS GRILL I'LL HAVE TO GET ME ANOTHER CHAR.BROIL PERFORMANCE SERIES ,,,,, WAY TO GO CHAR-BROIL ,,,,,,,,BEST GRILL ON THE MARKET Be careful, Char-Broil has engineered an expensive problem into this... Your new Char-Broil grill will have a gas feed (with the required regulator) that does not detach from the burner assembly. Char-Broil used to make it easy to swap out a malfunctioning overpressure regulator -- by unscrewing the old feed and putting in a new one that costs less than $20. Their new design means that you'll need to buy the whole new burner assembly -- at more than $100 -- just to fix something that the other grill manufactures allow you to replace yourself. It's as if they designed a car so that an entire axle would have to be replaced if a tire went flat. You'd prefer a car with tires that detach and can be replaced, right? Same with a grill and grill parts. Forget Char-Broil. I learned an expensive lesson with them. You'll find a lot of other new Char-Broil users on the Web making the same complaint. Until Char-Broil goes back to making grills the way they used to.... you're better off with another brand. Setup is a pain! The instructions aren't quite clear in a few places--poor image views and very limited text that doesn't really tell you what or where. This lead me to install the front panel incorrectly, which is attached by VERY cheap plastic pins that cannot be removed without breaking them.
Also, the ignition electrode has a wide flat connector which is supposed to attach to a round small wire connector. Guess what? flat pieces don't fit in round sockets! In trying to force the wire onto the connector, I broke the electrode. Cost to replace? US$12.94. The warranty does not cover parts damaged during setup.
Keep in mind, I'm usually pretty good at these kind of projects. I've had no trouble building furniture, installing lights and ceiling fans, etc., so it's not like I'm incapable of following directions. Next time, I'll get a a different brand, if this is any indication of the "support" I can expect from do-it-yourself Char-Broil grills! Problems We've had problems with the grill ignition system since we put the grill together. The directions say to tighten the electrode with a nut or wing nut to ensure it doesn't move. Problem: they didn't include a nut or wing nut to tighten the electrode. Solution: went to Home Depot with the electrode and bought a handful of nuts, wingnuts, and washers to be sure we got the right part. (Hint - a 3/8" hex nut is perfect.) Now the electrode is sparking but not igniting the grill. We match-lit it to be sure it wasn't a problem with the burners, and no, when match-lighting all three burners lit up just as they were supposed to. I used the interactive troubleshooting program on char-broil's website and the only thing left to do is clean the electrode with alcohol and try again. After that, their recommendation is to call them.
