Panasonic Power-On-Demand Bagless Upright Vacuum- MC-V7722 customer reviews: Unreliable and messy to empty We bought a panasonic because our first panasonic upright, purchased 15 years ago, was a rock - worked fabulous, only thing that ever needed replacing was the belt. We purchased bagless as I liked the idea of getting rid of the dirt immediately, not having it lingering in a bag. Also, I liked not having to bother with purchasing more bags. Turns out that emptying this vacuum is a very messy business. I empty the canister but all the dust is crammed between the folds of the filter. As I shake the filter to release the dirt, the dust and filth floats everywhere. I shake it inside a closed plastic bag but still the dirt particles get out. Then I need to use my fingers to go around the many creases in the filter and pull out the dirt. So, I now have dirty hands & fingernails as well as a room will dust floating all over. I need to come back to that room twenty minutes later to clean the dust again. Bagless isn't the only issue however, The filter is awkward to install. It really looks like it should go in the opposite way. I was putting it in the wrong way when I first got it in the mail and assembled it. After taking it to a repair center and realizing my mistake, I showed a helper how to use it one day. She still put it in the wrong way and I had to show her again - so it seems it wasn't just me being confused. It is also temperamental. It will shut off in the middle of cleaning and I try everything - emptying the 1/4 full canister, checking for dust at the bottom (entrance to motor), etc. It still won't come on and I'm prepared to take it in for service. An hour later, I try again and it runs fine. Finally, the hose for the attachments is way too short. Porbably I can buy an extension but what it came with just is not adequate. Alright, a couple of positives: 1. When it is running properly, it does seem to suction very well and get up the dirt. I also like the power on demand as it helps me know where to spend a little more time to get all the "invisible" dirt up. 2. Our local panasonic dealer has been great. I've taken this machine in twice and there have been no charges. They do seem to stand by their warranty without a lot of caveats (unlike Sears - I had a hard time getting repair on one of their vacuums). I would not recommend this and will never again purchase a bagless system like this one. If someone gives you one, however, it probably is worth holding on to as it does a pretty good job once you get used to its quirks and so long as you can tolerate cleaning out the filter.
