Thrilled with grill ! In comparison with other brands, this Vermont Castings model has excellent quality construction,elegant styling,more BTU's,backlit dials. It is a modest size that doesn't waste patio space, yet has ample grill surface. There are details like the rubber handgrip, stainless panels,condiment cubbies, a cutting board and marinating station built in! The rear wheels lock, but the grill is easy to maneuver.I was able to assemble it right out of the box with the help of my strong, handsome man and a hex wrench.The ignitors for the main grill and the side burner were already in place from the manufacturer, making assembly even easier. The temperature control was impressive, too. I look forward to many years of great grilling. This was not only a good deal, it is a good investment. Great value BUT, you must assemble it yourself This is an an excellent grill, well constructed and loaded with extras like a rotisserie, side burner, prep station, and lighted dials. The main reason it is so inexpensive compared with other Vermont Castings 4-burner models it that you have to assemble it yourself. It arrives in a 4' X 4' X 3' box on a palatte weighing 275 pounds. Inside the big box is 10 other boxes (and some of those have boxes inside). The coooking box and lid are assemled with the electronics, but that's it. I'm quite handy and like to do things to perfection -- it took a good 6 hours to put it together myself. It came out great, so it was worth my time to save money, but if you are not handy, I'd suggest you pay more from a dealer to get it delivered ready to go. One caution: if you do build it yourself, carefully count parts before you start. My made in China kit was missing a few screws in different sizes, but I was able to find them at Lowe's rather than waiting for Vermont Castings to send them. The directions could have been better, but they were adequate to get the job done. Also, one of my three cooking grates arrived damaged, so I am awaiting a replacement. Bottom line, this grill is far superior to the 6 year old Weber it replaced. It looks so sturdy that I might have to add it to my will as I think it will last a long time. Be aware of this before you buy it I was given the grill for a gift and as the previous poster mentioned I could not wait to assemble it and make it perfect. I own my own business and as such I have to be quality minded. What I got was not a quality product.
Packaging:
1.This grill was missing 20 some screws. Fortunately I had them in stock.
2. Overall packaging was adequate and quite cleverly done
Lay out all the parts on a tarp to avoid scratching them so you can identify it all, it is possible to assemble some parts wrongly.
Materials
1. Most screws and nuts are just painted soft steel. Not Stainless These will no doubt rust out within a year if your in a moist climate, very poor quality screws, nuts, and nut clips.
2. Metal sides parts are all painted steel, not powder coated.
3. There are some stainless doors and a few brackets
4. Rotissary parts are flimsey, more on that later
5. Castings? Not much in the way of castings here.
6. Burners are common soft steel and like other cheap grills will probably rust away and need replacing within 2 years
7. Use a hand screw driver and not a battery driver, you will easily cross thread these soft screws if your not careful.
8. There are absolutely NO locking washers or washers for the screws and bolts of this kit. Unbelievable to me that they would not include simple washers to keep this grill together. And since the screws are so soft it will undoubtable become loose and start falling apart. Buy a bag of lock washers while your buying the missing screws at your hardware supplier.
9. Casters are way too small for the size and weight of this grill. I will have to modify the base and put in larger ones if I keep this thing.
Performance
1. The grill works as advertized for the main burners and side burner
2. Rotisserie is a joke, the motor flange is so thin and weak that if you try to use it with even a small chicken the motor becomes disengaged from the spike, and you burn the bird. I will have to modify it to make it acceptable by adding some gussetted brackets to hold the motor in place.
Customer Support
1. You can get the manuals on the website, but there is no phone number for Vermont Castings customer support nor even an e-mail address. They refer you to their poor dealer who will not support you if you buy these grills from Amazon.com. Consider this carefully. You may be out on a limb if something is really awry with your purchase and lets say you 3/4 along the way of assembling it. You will never ever be able to take it apart and ship it back to Amazon since the packaging is so cleverly done.
Mere mortals will not be able to repackage this complex kit.
Bottom line, buy a put together quality stainless grill from another company. Especially if your not handy and can understand the complex processes you will need to go through to build this kit.
