Hoover Mach 6 Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum customer reviews:
|
Heavy - Toxic I purchased this vacuum two weeks ago and will be returning it. The Good - The handle is extenable, so tall and short alike can easily use it; it has good suction on the carpet; the onboard attachments are wonderful and it comes with an extension "hose" (up to 24' in hose) allowing you to easily do the staricase. The Bad - The vacuum is quite heavy and difficult to push, if I had any kind of back problem I could not use the vacuum; it blew as much debria around as it picked up when used on my hardwood floors; it left behind a pile of debris when I shut it off while stopped on my hardwood floors; the manual warns that the State of California recognizes that the vacuum contains materials that may cause cancer and reproductive toxicity - a factor in while I will be returning it.
Good cleaning, but heavy I bought the vacuum to replace a not terribly old EmPower that had some cracked parts on the body. This Mach 6 is a heavier-duty version of that vacuum, and has some nice features, including an automatic brush turnoff, a nicely placed power switch (on the handle, as opposed to the body), and decent hose.
Putting it together was easy and quick. But the first push across the carpet leads to your first reaction: "Man, is this heavy!" The wheels are smaller than they need to be, meaning the body drags on the carpet. This probably aids in the cleaning, but in actuality, it's like using a stick to push a 15 pound box across carpet. Leaning it back doesn't make a difference, as there's a stupid clear plastic plate across the back that digs into the carpet when you do so. You really can only move it when the body is dragging on the ground. It's easier for me just to carry it with the very nice handle.
I'm not incredibly muscular, but after vacuuming the house, I was literally sore. The retractable cord also got kinked inside the housing, making for a hard pull out. But, if you guide the hose while it retracts, you'll be fine.
Overall, I'm think this is a very powerful and well cleaning vacuum. The tools are nice, the suction is very good, and the brush works well (as long as the handle's down. It took me awhile to figure that out). We filled up the basket 3 times on the first trip around the house, which, in my opinion, makes it worth enduring the weight. Plus, it makes for a decent workout.
The downsides are plentiful, don't get me wrong. But if you're interested in a clean floor, and you don't mind some extra weight, this is a powerful and well cleaning vacuum.
Now let's see if it can last longer than that EmPower did.
